President Chávez meets with OPEC Secretary General

The President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Hugo Chávez, met with the OPEC Secretary General, Abdallá Salem El-Badri, last night in order to talk about the organization’s reality and the rise of oil prices.

During this meeting, Salem El Bradi, told the Venezuelan president that the price of oil has reached US$ 129 and mentioned that “there is no shortage of oil on the market because international oil supplies are very high.”
The OPEC representative, a native of Libya, pays his third visit to Venezuela, but his first as Secretary General.

Hours before the meeting with President Chávez, Salem El-Badri held a fruitful meeting with the Ministry of People’s Power for Energy and Oil and President of PDVSA, Rafael Ramírez, and tackled the certification process of the Orinoco Oil Belt’s oil reserves and the situation of the oil market.

Likewise, he visited the facilities of Intevep, a PDVSA subsidiary, and was informed about the Magna Reserva socialist project. On 21st May, the OPEC Secretary General is expected to visit the José Antonio Anzoátegui Industrial Complex and then travel to Ecuador.
