President Chávez denounces new campaign against Venezuela

President Hugo Chávez denounced that a new media campaign against Venezuela has been launched as he referred to an event held by representatives of different U.S. and Latin American institutions.

“10 Years of Venezuelan Foreign Policy: Impacts on the Hemisphere and the World” was the conference organized by the Summit of the Americas Centre of the Florida International University.

According to a document quoted by the Venezuelan president during an event held in Maracaibo, in Zulia State in western Venezuela, lecturers agreed on affirming that “President Hugo Chávez represents a threat to democracy in the region.”

President Chávez added that this conference also discussed the case of the alleged FARC laptops and the controversy generated by a video where Rodrigo Londoño, (Timochenko) announced the death of the rebel leader Manuel Marulanda.

“Some say that there have been accusations and processes that have not progressed in Venezuela because ‘Chávez is protected by a shield with an oil barrel on it’,” said the Venezuelan leader.

He highlighted that this is part of the empire’s campaign every day in universities and academic centres, as well as for large newspapers and TV stations all around the world.

“This is a media war, a psychological war, an asymmetric war, or, as the gringos call it, four generation warfare (4GW),” he explained.

At the same event he issued a warning about the intentions in some sectors to promote separatist movements within Venezuela.

“Here (Zulia state) is the epicenter of the separatist plan against Venezuela; and that plan is now expanding southwards, to the states of Táchira and Merida. According to reliable information, it even expands to the state of Apure , into what they are calling the bow, the Venezuelan crescent,” he pointed out.
