Venezuela to Chair VII COMINAC

Between July 2 and 4, the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela will chair the seventh Conference of Information Ministers of Non-Aligned Countries, to be held in Margarita Island, in north-eastern Venezuelan state of Nueva Esparta.

In compliance with the guidelines of the Non-aligned Movement, Venezuela, the country hosting the Conference of Ministers of Information, will take the office of President for a three-year term until the next summit.

The Non-aligned Movement was created in 1961 by leaders of 25 developing nations as a response to the bipolarity imposed by the United States and the Soviet Union  and is operated based on 10 principles governing the relations between big and small countries.

Such ten principles constitute a framework for the respect of human rights, sovereignty and self-determination of the peoples, the individual and collective defence, peace and cooperation; abidance by the laws and international obligations.

Currently the Non-Aligned Movement is made up by 118 nations from different regions of the world, including Venezuela who joined in 1989.

The first Conference of Ministers of Information of Non-Aligned Countries took place in 1976 in New Delhi, India. Encouraging a New International Order for Information and Communications, backed by the United Nations and other international organizations, stands out as one of its main purposes.
