Venezuela PDVSA plans to build three refineries 2005-2010

(Latin America News Digest) -  "Venezuelan state run oil giant Petróleos de Venezuela SA (PDVSA) envisages the construction of three new crude oil refineries in Venezuela for the period 2005 to 2010, it was reported on April 25, 2005.

The first refinery will be located in the northern state of Monagas, and will have a capacity of 50,000 barrels per day (bpd), mainly for asphalt production. The second refinery will be located in the northern state of Anzoategui, with a capacity of 400,000 bpd and a varied production. The third one will be located in the northern state Barinas, with a capacity of 50,000 bpd.

PDVSA's five year plan also envisages the improvement of the rest of its refining facilities, in order to increase its output, PDVSA's official Alejandro Granado said.

The restructuring will allow El Palito to begin to process only heavy fuels and its capacity will be increased. The refinery of Puerto La Cruz will pass through a through technological update and the capacity of Centro Refinador Paraguana (CRP) will increase by 100,000 barrels per day".
