Venezuelan Government starts consultation on new IT law
(BNamericas.com) - "Venezuela's government has launched a public consultation process for feedback on its plans to modify the science, technology and innovation law, congress said in a statement.
The draft bill proposes changes to 20 articles and the addition of 29 new clauses, which should encourage the development of the sector. Technology and innovation is an area that has been left behind in recent years in Venezuela, according to Norberto Peña, President of the congressional commission for science, technology and social communications.
The government plans to hold two regional hearings before sending the report for a second analysis by congress in early-May.
'The purpose of these consultations is to promote the participation of universities, scientists and researchers who are familiar with this law in each state. The sector has been relegated to second place by different governments that did not understand the need to develop technology and scientific knowledge. A law such as this can facilitate the creation of professionals dedicated to research,' Peña was quoted as saying The law is expected to receive final approval during the year (.)".
