Chávez nominated for Nobel Peace Prize for his work in helping poor people

(LatinYork) - "The name of Hugo Chávez, President of the Republic of Venezuela, appears among the nominees to receive the Nobel Peace Prize for working, through his governmental plans, in favour of people living in poverty.

These social programmes have been denominated 'missions' and they aim to meet the needs of the poorest part of the Venezuelan population by guaranteeing, among other things, free university education, free health care, a project to teach basic education to 5% of the population which still is illiterate. There are other 10 programmes that aim to help people in need and their strategy is being exported as models to other countries that are studying closely the Venezuelan phenomenon".
