The IX Bolívar Hall International Guitar Festival

The IX Bolívar Hall International Guitar Festival will run this year for three solid consecutive weeks presenting nine international guitarists and the popular series of Inter-Collegiate concerts. The reason for this expansion is not only that the number of performers worthwhile bringing to London grows continually, but also that the festival itself has become a focus for artists abroad.

The 2005 brings an eclectic mix of classical, crossover and flamenco performers that will cater for a wide range of tastes. It has been as usual a

pleasure to work with our diplomatic partners, the Embassies of London and the Instituto Cervantes, in achieving an array of artists such as Guinga from Brazil, the Trío Instrumental Palos y Cuerdas from Colombia, Morgan Szymanski from Mexico, Alexander-Sergei Ramírez from Perú and Paco Jimeno from Spain. The Venezuelan Arnoldo Moreno comes from Austria with his quintet and a crossover programme for strings and voice. Thanks to the generous sponsorship from Kent Guitar Classics we fulfilled the demand for a recital of Germany´s Tilman Hoppstock; and due to the fortunate coincidence of a European tour of North American guitarist David Leisner, we were able to include him in our list of luminaries. We owe this choice list of artists to the invaluable advise of our consultants in Britain and abroad. Classical Guitar Magazine has always given us not just advise but has been invaluable in the promotion of the artists before and after the festival.

Chris Stell has co-ordinated the Inter-Collegiate series on behalf of the Royal College of Music, as the festival has now made its first turn round of the eight British Academies of Music that have participated in it almost since the beginning. Our heart felt thanks to him for bringing all the student talent together in spite of his busy schedule. We also owe our gratitude to the professors and teachers of the instrument, and to the students themselves, who have agreed to participate in the festival, thus contributing to its uniqueness and ongoing success.
