in Pork Meat Complex
(El Nacional, reproduced by Conapri´s
Newsletter) - Souto Group opened the Ecological
Pork Meat Complex with a private investment of
Bs. 50 billion. The plant, situated in Tinaquillo,
Cojedes state, processes 1,000 to 1,200 animals
a day, which the investors hope to raise to an
optimum level of 2,000 hogs a day, equivalent
to 44,000 animals a month, totaling over 3 million
kilos. The Group plans to grow 25% in 2004 based
on a storage capacity of 6,000 metric tons. With
state-of-the-art technology from Germany, Spain,
Portugal and the United States, the complex is
the most modern abattoir in Venezuela and possibly
Latin America. The opening and construction of
the meat-processing center has generated 500 direct
and 1,500 indirect jobs.
