Total eyes Venezuelan gas
(International Oil Daily) - "French oil major Total hopes to launch natural gas production onshore within the next three years at its only gas project so far in Venezuela, the Yper project, if field evaluation tests succeed, a top executive told Reuters. The Yucal Placer project unites Total with Spain's Repsol YPF and Venezuela's Inepetrol and Otepi, and will supply the domestic market. "An early production system, to evaluate the field potential is expected to start production during the second quarter of 2004 and if we are successful we will be in a position to launch a bigger project within the next three years," said Daniel Allirot, vice president, Venezuela-Caribbean, for Total Exploration and Production. Allirot said Total was still interested in looking for natural gas offshore Venezuela in the planned future offshore Caribbean exploration rounds but that no data had been released yet".
