China seeks oil project with Venezuela says Chinese ambassador
(El Nacional, reproduced and translated by BBC Monitoring Service) - "Ambassador Ju Yijien has claimed that China and Venezuela share the vision of a 'freer and more equitable' world. Venezuela and China marked the 30th anniversary of the signing of the official establishment of their diplomatic relations (…)

(…) Yijien explains that the energy and agricultural sectors represent the main areas for exchange between the two countries, among other reasons because of what he considers 'the great exodus of Chinese companies' to win the international market, but also because of his country's obvious need to obtain increasing volumes of energy resources with which to meet the requirements of its enormous population.

He said: 'China consumes over 5m b/d and produces only 3.5m b/d, which we import mainly from the Middle East. In view of the shortage, we are seeking alternative energy development projects in (...) And in Latin America we want to carry out a large-scale project with Venezuela.'"
