Sudeban: Venezuelan local banking
in good form
(BNamericas.com) - 'Venezuelan banking
is well capitalized, liquid and does not present
asset problems, local press quoted the head of
Sudeban, the country's banking regulator Trino
Alcides Díaz as saying.
Díaz added that during the last three months
debt within the banking system has decreased in
conjunction with a growth in the credit portfolio,
due to good banking management and to existing
liquidity that allows banks to write off some
expired loans and restructure others.
The regulator said that deposits at banks, especially
30-day term deposits, have experienced sustained
growth. This trend can be attributed to depositors
looking for stability and a higher return on savings
than other alternatives, Díaz explained".
