(BNamericas.com) - "The finance committee of Venezuela's National Assembly has approved an additional 15.9bn bolivares (US$8.3mn) for reservoirs and treatment plants, state news agency Venpres reported.

Of the total financing, which will be channeled through the environment and natural resources ministry, 2.4bn bolivares will be used immediately on reservoir maintenance works due to their social development importance, said the report.

Reservoirs targeted for an immediate funds injection include El Guamo (Monagas state), Clavellinas (Sucre state), Agua Viva (Trujillo state), Majaguas (Portuguesa state), Onia (Mérida), and Acarigua and Quediches (Lara state). The ministry is responsible for some 100 reservoirs."
