Minfra to spend US$2bn on transit
(BNamericas.com) - "Venezuela's infrastructure
minister, Ramón Carrizalez, is to inject
US$1.5bn-2bn to complete mass-transit infrastructure
projects by 2006, state news agency Venpres reported.
Projects to benefit from the injection include
lines 3 and 4 of the Caracas metro, the Valles
del Tuy railroad, the La Encrucijada railroad,
the Los Teques, Valencia and Maracaibo metro projects,
and Mérida Trolebus.
Carrizalez announced the expenditure plan during
the opening of the north tunnel of line 4 of the
Caracas metro. Resources for several projects
were curtailed due to state budget problems originating
in the 2002 oil sector strike.
Works to renovate the Barquisimeto-Puerto Cabello
railroad will begin next week."
