Washington Group extends coal
contract
(BNamericas.com) - "Idaho-based Washington
Group International has extended a contract with
Venezuelan coal miner Carbones del Guasare for
operations management at the Paso Diablo mine
near Maracaibo city, the former announced.
The agreement runs from July this year to June
2007. Washington Group also renewed a contract
with Carbones del Guasare at the Mina Norte coal
mine near Maracaibo through 2005.
'We are now participating in the production of
almost 90% of Venezuela's total coal production
or close to 8.5Mt per year,' said Roy Wilkes,
president of Washington Group's mining business
unit.
Foreign direct investment owners of Paso Diablo
are Anglo Coal and RAG Coal, while FDI owners
of Mina Norte are Evan Energy and Chevron. Anglo
Coal is a unit of London-based mining house Anglo
American".
