starts up Caruachi, Guri turbines
(BNamericas.com) - "State-owned Venezuelan
power generator Edelca planned to start operations
June of turbine 7 at its Caruachi hydro project
and turbine 11 of its Guri hydro plant, the company
said in a statement.
Caruachi construction reached 96.7% completion
of its civil engineering and electromechanical
aspects in May, and operations with all 12 turbines
are expected in 2006. With the seventh turbine,
annual generation will increase to 10,500GWh.
At Guri, Edelca planned to restart operations
of its number 11 turbine in the second power house
after replacing parts to improve efficiency. Number
17 is scheduled to restart operations soon after
number 11.
Guri is 100km upstream from the confluence of
the Caroni and Orinoco rivers and is the second
largest hydro plant in the world after the Itaipu
plant on the Brazil-Paraguay borde".
