Enagas to call for bids on 5
gas fields by year-end
(BNamericas.com) - "Venezuela's government
plans to call for bids on five new gas fields
by end-2004, local newspapers quoted national
gas regulator Enagas president Jorge Luis Sánchez
as saying during a gas convention in Caracas.
The government 'has designed a strategy of diversification
of production of energy resources, with the strengthening
of strategic alliances with private national and
international capital,' he said. The fields to
be tendered - El Totumo, El Pao, La Galera, Memo
and Norte de Ambrosio - are all in the west of
the country. The idea is to strengthen the production,
transport and distribution of natural gas, especially
in the west of the country and in large cities,
Sánchez said.
'One of the objectives to achieve the long-term
supply of the domestic market is to develop the
natural gas sector, he said. "'We can use
this fuel as a pivot for the development of our
country and the diversification of the economy.'"
