Telesur starts open-signal broacast (Prensa Latina) - "Regional Telesur television station started broadcasting to Venezuela through an open signal on February 9.
Since the television station began operating in 2005, with participation of Venezuela, Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, Cuba, and Bolivia, recently, it could only be seen in Venezuela through cable and satellite television.
The project has been included in the regional integrationist plans, and its objective is to support Latin American cooperation actions, contribute to mutual learning about the situation in the region, and supply up-to-date information to Latin American countries and from the rest of the world.
According to the note, the opening of a sports channel in a short period and an international news agency has been planned, and launching its signal to Europe as well, probably in May, 2007.
The television station recently announced the beginning of operations in Madrid and London.
It is considered that Telesur currently reaches some 65 million Latin American television viewers with open broadcasts and some 5.5 million in the world, with cable broadcasts".
