Over 600 donors give life to cardiopathy patients
(Press office of the Latin American Cardiological Childrens Hospital/ National Radio of Venezuela) - "Over 450 children and adolescents aged 0-18 have been assisted in the medical center, among them, four Bolivian and Mexico children.
More than 640 people have attended the permanent blood donation drive in Hospital Cardiológico Infantil Latinoamericano Dr. Gilberto Rodríguez Ochoa (HCIL Spanish acronym) Latin American Cardiological Childrens Hospital since its inauguration last august 20, 2006. These donations have made possible chirurgical interventions and for hemodinamy over six patients per day in this Medical Center located in the west of the city.
José Riobueno, member of the Directive Board in charge of the HCIL's Blood Bank, pointed out that 10-15 donors are required to keep the rhythm of interventions: 50 per week.
The hospital has counted on the support of the hospital employees, patients' relatives, governmental institutions such as the Ministry of Popular Power for Health; the Social Action Foundation of Caracas Major's Office, The Municipal Chamber, and some other important institutions
Up to last January 25, the Hospital has assisted 450 patients aged from 0-18. That is to say, children and adolescents who suffer from congenital and acquired cardiopathies, which places the institution in the third position in Latin America.
Four children from Latin American countries have been operated. Neftalí Puc Poot (Mexican) has been operated because of an Interventricular Communication, the rest of the children came from Bolivia.
This High Specialization Center was created to overcome limitations existing in the treatment of these illnesses in Venezuela . Given its characteristics, it makes part of the fourth level of Health System boosted by the Bolívarian Government".
