The very small village of Galipan, with scarcely 2.500 inhabitants, is located in the Avila National Park. This rural community owes its name to an ancient Indian tribe who inhabited the area known as "Los Galipa", consequently those who lived on these steep mountain ranges are known as "galiponeros".

Galipan appears in the midst of the majestic mountain as if arrested in time, offering a rural landscape which gives the impression of being light years away from the metropolis, when in reality it is but 22 kilometers from Caracas. One can climb from Caracas (via Cotiza) in less than half an hour, using a four wheel USV.

Due to its proximity to the Capitol, Galipan allows us to enjoy its varied entertainment options, and be able to return to Caracas on the same day. Once in Galipan one may take walks or horse riding taking the many routes offered on the Avila, accompanied by exotic vegetation along all the paths

If the visitor wishes to climb to the Galipan Peak, an a clear day, he will be seduced by the view of the Caribbean Sea which this mountain alone offers, for mountain climbing enthusiasts there are guided tours which penetrate to the heart of the El Avila National Park and where the more adventuresome may came upon such attractions as The Spaniard's Path, Lagunazo or the House of Dr. Knoche, with its particular aura of mystery and dread.

But Galipan is much more than excursion and adventure; it is also part of the Gastronomic Circuit that extends all over the national territory. In its vicinity one may find at least half a dozen restaurants with different specialties: Venezuelan, Vasque and french cuisine amongst many others.

If your budget or fancy demands a more informal and economic environment, then the "Merendero de Galipan" (Lunch room) is the best choice, this is the oldest eating spot in the village, it was created by Luis Silva more than 50 years ago, here you will find the legendary pork sandwiches made with freshly baked bread. They also serve chocolate, hot coffee and juice mode from local fruits.

One may also reach Galipan by cable car and additionally visit the Humboldt Hotel areas, fly Kites, or visit the flower and vegetable nurseries. The really important thing is that Galipan offers diverse options where one can enjoy the mountain air and the friendliness of its good industrious people.
