60% of the earnings of CANTV will be reinvested back into the national sectors of telephone and internet. (El Nacional) - "The Minister of Communications and Information, Jesse Chacón Escamillo, reassured that 60% of the earnings of the State Communications' Company CANTV will be reinvested back into the national sectors of telephone and internet. Minister Chacón stated 'We believe that CANTV should be a promoter of the companies of that sector'
The Government met last week behind closed doors with representatives of the Chamber of Telecommunication Service Companies (Casetel).
In the meeting it was pointed out that the State 'does not want to apply anticompetitive politics' with the purchase of the main telecommunication company in the country. 'The intention is to increase the penetration and lower the tariff in order to carry out ample and better services to all Venezuelans'. (.)
Minister Chacón emphasized that the Government together with CANTV has plans for 'big projects' such as the launch of the Satellite Venezat-1 and the installation of the largest fiber optic red in Latin America . The aim of the Company is to have 20.000 kilometres of fiber optics for the year 2011.
The Government Official highlighted the public offer approved by the Government for a wider radio electric spectrum. On the 12 July 2007 published in the Gaceta Oficial No.38.724 was the sections of the spectrum that would be up for bidding: 1710-1770 MHz, 18051910 MHz, 1930-1190 MHz and 2110-2170 MHz".
