RCTV once again adds to the list of private stations operating in Venezuela (Prensa Latina) - "The return of RCTV on cable knocks down an international campaign that Venezuela was attempting against freedom of speech by not renewing the broadcasting license of that private channel.
Less than two months after its open signal license expired, RCTV once again adds to the list of private stations operating in the country, which are far over those run by the State.
Venezuelan Telecommunications Minister Jesse Chacón affirmed that the return of the channel pulls down the alleged lack of freedom of expression in the country, and stressed RCTV could have begun broadcasting on cable right after the license expired.
Chacón also said the press freedom issue rather applies to the action by the president of 1BC company, Marcel Granier, operator of the TV channel, who barred public media from attending the press conference on the RCTV return.
By coincidence, the US move at the Organization of American States (OAS) concluded after the regional organization rejected the requested sending of an international mission to Venezuela to report on the issue".
