Uruguay backs Venezuela candidacy to UN Security Council

(El Universal) - "Uruguay is to vote Venezuela to join the United Nations Security Council as a non-permanent member, said Foreign Affairs minister Reinaldo Gargano, who claimed that both countries have 'political ties,' AP reported.

Gargano made the announcement in a hearing at the Deputy Chamber International Relation Committee where he explained aspects of Uruguay foreign policy.

In Venezuela 'there is a legitimately elected government; it is a member of the Common Market of the South (Mercosur) and we have political ties.'

Venezuela joined Mercosur -comprising Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay- early in July".
