London's Transport chief visits Venezuela (BBC News) -"London's transport commissioner visited Venezuela as part of a deal to help improve the country's transport system.
Peter Hendy and his team studied road schemes, bus route planning and the metro in the capital, Caracas, said a Transport for London (TfL) spokesman.
The three-day visit follows an oil deal signed with Venezuela in February to provide cheap fuel for London's buses.
Mr Hendy said the trip would highlight how Venezuela can benefit from London's experience with public transport.
As part of the oil deal, London has offered to advise Venezuelan authorities on transport congestion and environmental issues.
'London's got a history of a unified transport structure and a city of 7m people,'
'So it makes sense for me to come and have a look round for a couple of days and then for us to sit down with them and see how we can help them.' said Mr Hendy". |
