Venezuelan indigenous leader nominated for Nobel Prize

(Agencia Bolivariana de Noticias)- "Venezuelan indigenous leader and National Assembly representative, Nohelí Pocaterra, has been nominated for the Swedish Nobel Peace Prize. This nomination makes her commit even more with the struggle for indigenous rights in Venezuela and the region.

The President of the Permanent Commission of Indigenous Peoples in Venezuela's National Assembly, Nohelí Pocaterra, has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize. The representative

confirmed the information at the closing ceremony of the V National Indigenous Peoples Congress, held in Caracas.

Representative Pocaterra said that this nomination makes her commitment even stronger with the struggles of indigenous peoples. She said her compromise will continue. "This is a great challenge and in no way will it ever pull me away from my people. On the contrary, I will continue fighting for the vindication of the indigenous peoples," expressed Mrs. Pocaterra.

'In these cases when one is nominated for such a prestigious award, one should not use it for oneself. One needs to become in community leaders,' said Mrs. Pocaterra."
