A Cup for everyone

During a journey, with the enthusiast members of the local Committees and looking around the magnificent stadiums that will host the games of the Copa América Venezuela 200, the prevailing feeling is that we are at the threshold of the best edition ever held of this event. It's an emotion that fills the spirit and inspires pride and joy. Each host city is making every effort to show its best face and the devotion of their people pushes each mile of concrete to build facilities and embellish roads, avenues and squares.

This football celebration will be held in our country as never before. And this time the Venezuelan population won't be a mere silent observer, but a devoted and enthusiast host. Thanks to the charm and passion of football, we will finally be on the spotlight of the must universal of all sports. This is a Cup for all and having this commitment in mind Venezuela will embrace the world with its typical warm and direct contact at the fields where will be played the carnival of the Copa América Venezuela 2007. Our country will also offer a virtual hug to the rest of the world through the satellite broadcasting that will promote our nation overseas.

For Germany the last World Cup was an event that strengthened its identity, and allowed it to show the face of a modem and tolerant nation that has left behind any trace of collective guilty. Football has made a miracle by joining the bulk of the German population around a flag and makes them to raise it with pride. The Copa América Venezuela 2007 will be a unique occasion to strengthen our sense of belonging.

The event will provide lots of opportunities to establish a close and warm relation with the fans and the romance around this tournament could be preserved for the future. Every house in Barinas, Barquisimeto, Caracas, Maracaibo, Maturín, Mérida, Puerto la Cruz, Puerto Ordaz and San Cristobal will open its doors to receive the visitors. The rest of the country will join the celebration and offer its best spirit to its neighbours.

Will feel as never before that football is the most important thing on these lands. This magic could be prolonged and the passion could become a habit. Once the event had been inaugurated, the hole planet will focus its eyes on Venezuela. Indoors, the football fans will enjoy as never before the championship.

Interview with Jorge Rodríguez
(Vice-President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and President of the Organization Commitee for the Copa América Venezuela 2007)

Jorge Rodríguez
Vice President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela

-What is the prevailing feeling at the high government before the imminent celebration of the Copa América Venezuela 2007?

-Everybody is very happy not only at the high government but all over the country. The prevailing feeling is one of great joy nationwide. This Cup comes at the right time. We are all focused on this great football event. Recently I visited the Caracas-La Guaira thruway works-and I felt the high enthusiasm among the workers there, from those who work placing the joists to the developers.

-What would be the benefits of this event for Venezuela ?

- The first and more important one is that this event provides an ideal opportunity to show

the world the virtues of our country, our work skills and ability to face challenges. The education development around these works will represent a significant leap forward in quantitative and qualitative terms.

-What is the source of the volunteers who will support the Cup celebration?

- They are organized by the Inter Ministerial Committee in along with the regional governors who have made a follow-up to all contractors, on the one hand, and the City Project on the other hand. These are the main two divisions.

-What would be the fate of these facilities once the event is finished?

- They will be devoted to the development of sport programs. With these facilities we even have the required conditions to hold a world championship in Venezuela, probably under-20 or under-l7.

-What kind of parallel events have been included in the Copa América agenda?

- The general idea is to guarantee the security at the nine host cities, to offer cultural and musical events and celebrate the best Copa América of all times.

-which will be the security measures to be applied to the daily life of the city?

- The Minister of the Popular Power for the Defense, General in Chief Raul Isaías Baduel, is a member of the Inter Ministerial Committee. He has been coordinating the tasks with the police chiefs at each venue to guarantee that every aspect will be safe.

-Have the authorities designed an awareness campaign to promote sports?

-Indeed, and not only for the days of the championship. Our national government is committed to support the sport activities and the promotion of education is one of the constituent engines to bring education to every corner of the nation and raise the citizen awareness about the relationship of education and sports.

Under this conception, we see the sport activity as a sort of vaccine to curve crime and other social ailments.

-The Conmebol has approved all the nine venues. It seems that all the development achieved could make easier the celebration of a World Cup of any category here...

-We cannot discard this possibility. On the contrary dreams are for free. In fact, four venues would be enough to celebrate a worthy championship, but Venezuela has other world-class facilities. We will fight to bring those championships to our country.

- it is the Conmebol approval a goal for Venezuela ?

-Absolutely. Venezuela has got a 20 at the infrastructure test.
