Observers confirm legitimacy of Venezuelan Elections (Radio Nacional) - "International observers, who are going to be present during the elections on 4th December, reconfirmed the legitimacy and transparency of the process. They stated this during a press conference at the Lagua room in the Tamanaco Hotel in Caracas.
At the same time, they invited all the population to vote on the parliamentary elections on Sunday December 4th.
The National Electoral Council has set up 9,387 election centres in the 24 Venezuelan regions, in which there are 27,542 tables, of which 27,339 have automated voting machines.
Nearly 400 international electoral experts leaded by the Organisation of American States and the European Union will participate in the observation process.
At the same time, international observers pointed out that this parliamentary election would not be illegitimate because some opposition groups chose not to participate: 'Democracy is build with those who participate, therefore the withdrawal of the opposition parties does not lessen the legitimacy of the parliamentary elections', said Eugenio Chichas, magistrate of the Salvadorian Supreme Electoral Tribunal and member of the observers' delegation.
Chichas said 'there is no way' this process could not be legitimate; because they have proved adequate technical conditions and this is one of the most audited and certified elections in Latin America". |
