Venezuela says US not drug judge

(Prensa Latina) -"Venezuela rejected a US State Department report criticizing its anti drug policy and disqualified Washington right to certify or de-certify other countries.

The director of the National Anti-Drug Office (ONA), Nestor Reverol, indicated that any country that unilaterally certifies or de-certifies another nation was unacceptable.

Referring to Venezuela he recalled that the United Nations placed the country in third place world wide in the capture of drugs and acknowledges its battle against drug trafficking.

In an event to sign agreements with several city halls in the fight against drugs, Reverol noted that Venezuela is always willing to cooperate internationally if its national sovereignty is respected.

Proof, he said, are the 50 anti drug agreements signed with more than 30 nations and others are being prepared with the United Kingdom and France.

Venezuelan attorney general, Isaías Rodríguez, recalled that his country suspended agreements with the US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) for violations committed by the institution.

Rodríguez said in an interview given to the local Union Radio that the DEA tended to go after small fry but never aided in the capture of a capo.

Rodríguez added that Venezuela has an ongoing battle against drug trafficking and from 2001 to 2007 it made 10,147 drug related arrests and discovered 3,851 criminal acts in 2006 with more than three thousand sentences handed down".
