CNE President gives assurances for referendum

(El Universal) - "Tibisay Lucena, the top executive officer of the National Electoral Council (CNE), said that Venezuelans can rest assured of voting transparency.

'CNE has been working hard over the last few years to improve and cleanse the registry of voters,' said the senior official on show 'Diálogo Con' aired on TV channel Televen.

Lucena strongly recommended voters to 'calm down,' and said that, like in the election for president held last December, CNE would ensure transparent, reliable voting.

As for the referendum on the proposed changes to the Constitution, the official noted that over 99 percent of polling stations would be automatic and the results disclosed within three hours.

'This is a very simple voting. We will put (the question) on the screen. We will not use the ballots because there is no need for them. Therefore, voters can go straight to the screen and the transfer is very fast', she explained".
