Chávez calls for granting constitutional level to social missions programs

(Prensa Latina) - "The draft reform to the Magna Carta proposed by President Hugo Chávez calls for granting a constitutional level to the social missions and programs underway in Venezuela.

Chávez has repeatedly stressed that the proposal is aimed at strengthening the revolution and, in this regard, it is necessary to proceed according to the situation and 'embed successful experiences in the Constitution.'

Who would dare to deny the tremendous success of missions including Barrio Adentro (health care) and Robinson, Ribas and Vuelvan Caras (literacy campaigns for adults), among others, wondered Chávez during a graduation ceremony of doctors.

Once the reform is approved in the referendum, all the missions will be embedded forever in the Constitution, so that they would not depend on the willingness of any government, and it will be up to the people to change them because this is the essence of democracy, added Chávez".
