Venezuelans debate constitutional reform (Prensa Latina) - "President Hugo Chávez's proposal in mid August to reform the Venezuelan Constitution has created a great scenario in the country where political and social organizations are debating the future of the project.
As part of the debates called by the president himself, the Venezuelan legislature exchanged criteria with representatives of several states during a recent meeting in Carabobo.
On that occasion, representatives of workers and students organizations, communal councils, agricultural workers and social missions met with leaders of the National Assembly to express their ideas and viewpoints on the constitutional reform.
According to experts, the government acknowledges the need to allocate part of public funds to carry out social works in the country.
In addition, a law will create mechanisms for the National Power, the states and the municipalities to decentralize and transfer the services they run to the organized communities, communal councils, communes and other People's Power institutions.
That way, the constitutional reform gives more responsibilities to the communal power, which will participate in economic processes, the management of public companies and social activities in the fields of culture, sports and recreation.
The Confederation of Socialist Entrepreneurs expressed support for the constitutional reform, which it considers 'a path completely pertinent and totally correct.'
Foreign Minister Nicolas Maduro met with Venezuelan ambassadors and business attaches in Asia, the Middle East, Oceania and Africa to activate the international promotion of the constitutional reform.
Those actions are aimed at countering media manipulation on the reform and explaining its content and real scope". |
