Changes to the Constitution meet the revolutionary requirements
(El Universal) - "Following the Venezuelan government 'achievements' since the enactment of the 1999 Constitution, there is the need for changes to the Constitution to meet the Bolivarian revolution new requirements, said Venezuelan ambassador to the Organization of American States (OAS) Jorge Valero.
'Constitutions should mirror the historical changes of societies; they should be a dynamic, variable structure,' added the ambassador during his presentation of the changes advanced by Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez.
Valero maintained that the 1999 Constitution helped to overcome prevailing injustice and inequality. In addition, he noted that multiple international organizations, including the United Nations (UN) 'have acknowledged the dramatic economic and social goals attained in such a short time by the government of President (Hugo) Chávez.'
The Ambassador claimed that under the proposed changes to the Constitution. 'Fundamental rights established in the 1999 Constitution are acknowledged, including the referendum and respect for the international treaties initialed by the Republic', he adds". |
