Nobel Prize winner Saramago defends Venezuelan sovereignty

(El Nacional) - "The Portuguese writer had a red flower in his hand. After more than an hour in a televised interview, José Saramago left the state owned TV channel, Venezolana de Televisión, where he talked about the importance of the current government.

'Venezuela is going through a historical change. What happens here is so important that it will have a place in history, not only in Venezuela but in Latin America as well, and why not, in world history', the intellectual said. The Nobel Prize is visiting Caracas and begged 'for foreign interference to stop'.

'What Venezuela needs is to overcome the tremendous amount of social injustice of which the population has been the main victim (…) Finally, eyes are turning to an important part of the Venezuelan population that had been undermined for centuries of indifference from the powerful political and economical classes' (…)."
