Venezuela: congressional
recall referendums set
(Latinnews Daily) - "The National
Electoral Council announced on 9 November
that the recall referendums on nine opposition
congressmen will be held on 5 December.
This is the final
round of elections this year. Given
the way the electoral tide is running,
it is likely to produce another grim
result for the opposition to President
Higo Chávez. The probability
must be that all nine opposition congressmen
will lose their seats and be replaced
by their alternates, all of whom are
Chavistas. The only deputy who appears
to have a chance of hanging on is Luis
Longart from the Movimiento al Socialismo
in Nueva Esparta. This state is one
of only pro governed by the opposition
(
