Venezuela's Chávez creates international humanitarian brigade
(BBC Monitoring Americas) - "According to Official Gazette No 38,065, decree number 3,229 issued the President of the Republic, Hugo Chávez Frías has created the International Humanitarian Civil-Military Brigade Simón Bolívar.

The foreign assistance organization will attend emergency situations as a result of natural disasters in the Caribbean and Central America as well as any other country that requests aid through diplomatic channels (…)

The president took the decision in light of the approval of a natural disaster Regional Cooperation Agreement between member and associated states in the Association of Caribbean States. Likewise he has considered the principals that govern Venezuela's Latin American and Caribbean policy: cooperation and integration and the well-being and collective security of its inhabitants".
