Venezuela's
Chávez creates international humanitarian
brigade
(BBC Monitoring Americas) - "According
to Official Gazette No 38,065, decree
number 3,229 issued the President of the
Republic, Hugo Chávez Frías
has created the International Humanitarian
Civil-Military Brigade Simón Bolívar.
The foreign assistance organization will
attend emergency situations as a result
of natural disasters in the Caribbean
and Central America as well as any other
country that requests aid through diplomatic
channels (

The president took the decision in light
of the approval of a natural disaster
Regional Cooperation Agreement between
member and associated states in the Association
of Caribbean States. Likewise he has considered
the principals that govern Venezuela's
Latin American and Caribbean policy: cooperation
and integration and the well-being and
collective security of its inhabitants".
