Caracas
steps on the gas in virgin territory
(Lloyds List) - "Petróleos
de Venezuela SA is building on its future plans
in what is becoming a major liquefied natural
gas project.
'Venezuela could be a tremendous player, not only
working offshore but also producing natural gas',
says the Deputy Energy Minister Luis Vierma. The
whole country sits on a huge volume of oil and
gas reserves, most of which remains untapped in
the ground. The onshore areas are well explored,
but the offshore is virtually untouched.
'Venezuela
has an ample business portfolio to cover offshore
oil and gas exploration in its Atlantic and Caribbean
continental shelves, where discovery possibilities
total some 100trn cu ft of gas and 18bn barrels
of crude oil´, says Aires Barreto, Vice-president
of PDVSA".
