ChevronTexaco
bids for Venezuela natgas field
(Reuters) - "U.S. oil major ChevronTexaco
has made a bid to develop a natural gas field
in waters off northeastern Venezuela, a company
official said.
The company has placed a bid for
Block 3 in the Deltana area on the maritime border
with Trinidad, the official told Reuters. The
official did not say how much ChevronTexaco offered
for the block. The U.S. firm is now waiting for
a response from the Ministry of Energy and Mines,
the official added.
Venezuela, the world's No.
5 oil exporter, is seeking to develop natural
gas from the Deltana region to feed a proposed
4.7 million tonne per year liquefied natural gas
(LNG) export terminal.
The OPEC nation is seeking to diversify its oil
economy by recreating the success that neighboring
Trinidad and Tobago has had in exporting LNG.
In February, Venezuela awarded Blocks 2 and 4
to ChevronTexaco and Norway's Statoil".
