- "Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez
will travel to Russia late next month
to sign a series of agreements, an official
said. Venezuelan ambassador Carlos Mendoza
told the El Nacional newspaper that Chávez
will sign with his Russian counterpart,
Vladimir Putin,an agreement on energy
sector investment. Both countries are
among the world's major oil producers.
Agreements on the protection of investments
and cooperation on the fight against terrorism
will also be inked. Chávez would
also discuss the purchase of transport
and militar helicopters from Russia and
Russia's interest in launching Venezuela's
first satellite.
The Venezuelan government has given positive
evaluation of Russia's proposal to form
a bloc of natural gas-exporting countries,
which is aimed at creating mechanisms
of cooperation to prevent a violent drop
in prices as a consequence of uncontrolled
competition, said Mendoza"
