Venezuela is offering Qatar a 9% stake in LNG project

Abdullah bin Hamad al-Attiyah said that Venezuela is offering Qatar a 9% equity stake in its planned $2.7 billion Mariscal Sucre natural gas project reported Dow Jones.

Al-Attiyah told Dow Jones Newswires that he discussed the project with Venezuelan Deputy Oil Minister Luis Vierma who visited Qatar last week specifically to review the plans with Qatari officials.

"We are interested in the project and we are going to study its economics and evaluate it further", he said, on the sideline of a gas conference. He said his government won't find it difficult to finance the project, reported Dow Jones. Standard & Poor's gave Qatar´s an "A" ratings for its long-term foreign currency sovereign credit and senior unsecured debt ratings for the State of Qatar, and on its long-term local currency sovereign credit rating for Qatar an 'A' with the outlook stable.

Venezuela´s oil company PDVSA partners in the Mariscal Sucre project are Shel and Mitsubishi Corp. The project is expected to produce around 4.7 million metric tons of LNG annually.
