Alcasa produces first corrugated sheets
(BNamericas.com) - "Venezuelan aluminum smelter Alcasa has produced its first lot of corrugated aluminum sheets for the local market, a company spokesperson told BNamericas.

Alcasa is currently the only company in Venezuela that produces this type of sheet and the output will allow local companies to cut their imports of the product, the official said. The sheets are used in transportation, construction and boat building, among others.

'We expect to satisfy all domestic demand and take some orders from abroad,' the Alcasa spokesperson said (…)

The target is to produce 100t a month, enough to cover domestic demand. Alcasa is also going ahead with a plan to revamp its production cells in order to exceed output of 200,000t/y, its installed capacity.

The Alcasa plant is in Puerto Ordaz in eastern Venezuela's Guayana region. Venezuelan heavy industry state holding company CVG controls 92% of Alcasa, while the remaining 8% belongs to US aluminum giant Alcoa".
